UNESCO — United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations whose purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and the human rights and fundamental freedoms proclaimed in the UN Charter.
UNESCO World Heritage — World Heritage is the designation for places on earth that are of outstanding universal value to humanity and as such, have been inscribed on the World Heritage List to be protected for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.

Canadian UNESCO Sites

Miguasha National Park, Canada — A 370 million year old fossil site that features plants and animals that preceded life at Joggins.
Ischigualasto/Talampaya Natural Parks, Argentina — A 248 to 208 million year old site that highlights the evolution of vertebrate life and the nature of the palaeoenvironment in the Triassic Period.
Dorset and East Devon Coast, United Kingdom — As with Joggins, the Dorset and East Devon Coast is a coastal exposures site that highlights an almost continuous sequence of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous rock formations spanning the entire Mesozoic Era (251 to 66 million years ago). The site includes sites where vertebrate and invertebrate, marine and terrestrial fossils can be found well-preserved within its cliffs.
Dinosaur Provincial Park, Canada — A site where some of the world’s most important dinosaur fossil discoveries have been made, dating back some 75 million years ago.
